flower id: forsythia

Have you seen these in your yard or along the roadside this spring? These bright blooms are from forsythia bushes. They are in full bloom here in New Jersey right now. We've had a rough spring so they are a little late but these sunshine yellow bushes are everywhere! I have been tempted all week to stop and take some blooming branches from the roadside so when I saw some blooming in a friend's yard, I snipped a few for my table.

Forsythia is actually not a "flower" but a deciduous shrub that blooms beautiful yellow flowers in the spring. If you know you have a forsythia bush, you can take cuttings in late winter before it even blooms, bring them inside and watch them bloom before your eyes.

Happy blooming friday. And bring some spring blooms indoor this weekend!
